Robert Murphy on Fed's Involvement in Housing Troubles

Well done. Robert Murphy won't be appearing on a pop TV network news program any time soon, that's for certain.

How Marx's "Labor Theory of Value" Distorts People's Images of Businesses - The Wal Mart Suit

If you get a chance, listen to Gardner Goldsmith's 12-3-08 podcast, in which he explains Marx's "Labor Theory of Value", and how the vestiges of it still linger in the minds of many. From the auto bailout and the "need to support workers", to the Wal Mart trampling case in NY, this is a poisonous ideology. In the Wal Mart case, the store is being sued for "advertising low prices". The hidden meaning? People are controlled by the owners of the means of production, and have no control over themselves. Bad mojo, baby.

Beth A Hoffman, RIP -- A Great Defender of Liberty Passes Away

We are saddened to announce that Beth A Hoffman, the long-serving Managing Editor of "The Freeman" magazine, and key component of the Foundation for Economic Education staff, has passed away at age 58. Beth was a wonderful person, always smiling and giving her all to support free markets. She was a brilliant editor, and never failed to make one feel at home when visiting FEE in Irvington, NY.

Our sympathies go out to her family and her friends. She was a true marvel, and her smile will be remembered along with her enthusiasm for freedom. Rest in peace, Beth. We'll miss you.

Terror Attack in India -- Gun Control Helped the Attackers, and the "War" on Terror Didn't Save Americans

From Gard:

I was visiting www.repairmanjack.com, the official website for author F. Paul Wilson, and noticed a very good post by "Webby". It tied into something I heard on a talk radio station out of Boston. Here is the essence of what I wrote at repairmanjack.com...

"I heard that the police at the hotel attack were nearly powerless, because they were unarmed. The people visiting were unarmed. But, of course, the attackers were going to conform to the strict Indian gun control laws, just to be fair...

Stephen Smith on the Advantages of Specie Currency

As many Conspirators know, Stephen Smith has a great gift for explaining free markets and defending liberty. At his website, he has just posted a good piece on a "gold standard", and it is a great way to introduce neophytes to the principles that support the argument in favor of specie currency.

Large Study Indicates that Many American Students Lie, Cheat, Still Think They're Honest

So, given the results, is it appropriate to speculate that perhaps this lack of ethics tends to permeate gubment as well?

Um. Yeah!

Bernanke Admits - "DUH, I Might've Been Wrong About That 'It's Sector-Specific' Thing"

Remember when Gard and others on his show were talking about how daft if was for Bernanke to be saying that the "financial crisis was isolated only to the housing markets"? Remember how that might have inspired you to think that Bernanke was a dangerous man in a dangerous position?

Yep. You were right.

NOW Benny is saying he might've been wrong. Duh.

US Officials Flunk ISI Test on US History, Economics, Civics

You can take the test, too (thanks to Webby, a visitor to www.repairmanjack.com, who discovered the quiz). There ARE some areas where one might quibble with the premises of the question, but on the whole, it's a good bit of fun.
