This Supreme Court battle over whether the Westboro Baptists can protest the funerals of US soldiers carries with it very strong ties to how contemporary politicians and their judicial appointees view the actual wording of the First Amendment and the so-called "Incorporation Doctrine".

It goes back to a bill passed in 2009. The Governor of the state has vowed to not let the feds take the land. Could be an interesting battle.

According to the Northwest Ordinance, all territories entering the union are supposed to enter with the full "rights and priveleges" of all of the original states. This, of course, has not happened. If this move is finalized, 60% of the state of Utah will be under federal control.

As Sheldon Richman observes, the new Obama admin proposals include higher penalties for not buying health insurance. Why? Because the feds plan on forcing insurance companies to accept people with preexisting conditions. This, in turn, will prompt people to WAIT to get their insurance until after they get sick, which, in its own turn, will force the insurance companies to charge more, which will prompt more people to drop their policies until after they get sick, etc... So, the answer for this fascism applied to insurance companies? Fascism applied to the citizens!

MANY MANY republicans will go along with this regulation of insurance companies and individuals. They need to be taught a lesson at the ballot box if this happens.
