The announcement by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke that the government-backed monopoly on US currency issuance would cut the Fed Funds Rate by .75 of a percentage point, bringing it from 4.25 to 3.5% was greeted by most economically knowledgeable people as one of the biggest mistakes in recent economic history. It also provides more evidence that Mr. Bernanke doesn't know anything about what causes inflation and inspires the so-called "business cycle" (this is actually a government-money-monopoly created phenomenon).
