BREAKING NEWS - NH Committee Votes to Take Federal Cash and Accept REAL ID
As reported by Seth Cohn on 'Against the Grain', a legislative committee voted today to allow NH to "take part in" a program to impose federal requirements on states and their drivers' licenses.
The Joint Fiscal Committee voted to accept three million Dollars in federal largess for the program, much less than what it will eventually cost in money and integrity.
Seth Cohn reports on the breaking story. Thank you Seth!!

NH Citizen Russell Kanning Arrested for Protesting the IRS
Mr. Kanning was arrested this morning by armed federal agents who invaded his home and threw him to the floor. He was brought to the Federal Building at 55 Pleasant St, in Concord (ironic street name, isn't it?)
His charges will most likely include cirminal tresspass, which is interesting, because the IRS is considered to be a private corporation, but has protection by federal troops. Strange, isn't it?

UK Sees Wave of Topless Men! It MUST BE STOPPED!
Opening up a few thoughts about social morays and toplessness, this piece on a growing trend in the UK also inspires thoughts about the rules governing the "public square", and whether taxpayers can have their money taken for the creation of the public square, but be restricted in how they use it.
Local control is a close approximation of free competition in the market, but it is not free competition. At least in a small town, one can try to "excape" to a different locale if one is dissatisfied with the rules imposed by the majority. But anarcho-capitalism is probably a better option.
Here is the story, direct from England! Cheerio!
Illinois District Judge Finds Against Civil Liberties in ATT, NSA Phone Records Suit
US District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly ruled Tuesday that there was no standing for a suit blocking ATT from handing phone records of its customers to the US government during the so-called "war on terror".
This is a troubling development, since this judge is supposed to be versed on the law, and ruling on matters of law. Since we are not LEGALLY at WAR, it is vexing to think that a judge could overlook that fact.

James Bovard on the US and its 'Detainee' Policies

Together, James and Gard explored the news that the Bush Administration will now conform to the Geneva Conventions on prisoner treatment, when the adminstration has repeatedly told us it WAS already conforming to them.

Read the Details about the Internet, thanks to Senator Ted Stevens - 'R', Alaska -
Thanks to Number Two, the Conspiracy would like to offer for your perusal the comments of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, member of the Senate Commerce Committee (better known at the "Anti-commerce Committee"). As a member of the committee, Senator Stevens is charged (though not constitutionally) with regulating the nation to death.
This he does with aplomb and striking enthusiasm, despite his glaring lack of knowledge about the things he wants to regulate. Case in point, the internet. Ted and his pals in DC are looking into the interest of businesses to provide upgraded levels of internet service for added fees. Since Ted does not seem to believe that people can be free to use their money to get something better, because it might make others feel inadequate, he is against letting businesses offer things like faster service, video news, and music options for a bit more. Equality means the equal sharing of misery, not equal treatment under the law.

NY Rep Peter King Calls for Treason Charges Against New York Times
Following the controversial revelation by the NYT that the Bush Administration was gathering data on financial transactions (by the thousands per day), NY Republican Peter King decided to hop onto his soapbox to tell viewers of Fox News that he wants the editors and reporters prosecuted for "Treason". This is, of course, because we are at "War".
Mr. King ought to be careful of how he uses the language. Some of us still remember the real meaning of words, and the words of the Founders.
The 'Progressive' perspective on Immigration, Part Two of Two, with Bill Fletcher
Concluding our conversation with Mr. Fletcher, formerly of Tran Africa and the AFLCIO.
Immigration, from the 'Progressive' Perspective, With Bill Fletcher, Jr. Former President of Trans Africa, and AFLCIO Advocate
The issue of immigration bubbles under the surface, as Congressmen and Senators find it impossible to agree on a new "immigration reform" bill.
While the politicians may think people are not watching them closely, such a view would be sadly mistaken. Bill Fletcher and Gardner Goldsmith discussed the view of the pro-union, "progressive" side in this debate. This is part one of two of this fascinating conversation.

Freedom v False Security, Economics v Paternalism, Liberty v Regulation -- The Latest US Senate News on Immigration
The US Senate is poised to pass "immigration reform" that would dramatically increase the power of the federal government, and further attenuate the rights of United States citizens.
As reported by the Associated Press:
"Employers who do not use a new computerized system could be fined $200 to $600. The system would include information from the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and Homeland Security Department.
"There would be $20,000 fines for hiring illegal immigrants once the new screening system is in place, double the current maximum. Repeated violators could be sentenced to prison terms of up to three years.
