Not that free-marketeers haven't been saying this would happen. Remember, it will take some weeks before the Senate and House "compromise" on their various health fascism bills. If something passes (and we predict that they will pass regulations forcing insurance companies to take people with pre-existing conditions, a set-up for the downfall of private insurance), the price of gold will then soar. If something is not passed, then the mirage "recovery" will see the stock market rise, gold moderate for a few months, and then inflation will start to be seen, which will prompt gold to rise higher and higher.

The highs you see now will seem like nothing when those days come.

Nothing like a proven liar, cheat and intellectually corrupt man to propose new controls over private and peaceful citizens in their voluntary financial transactions.

So the CIA and FBI monitor libertarians, and the Homeland Security Czar sends out warnings about people who admire Ron Paul and oppose central banking and undeclared wars, but this man who is said to have killed 13 people at Ft. Hood was KNOWN by the feds to have tried to contact al Queda, and he somehow went unnoticed by the rest of the government system.

Doesn't say much for the government system, does it...

Hmm... Could there possibly be a different kind of system, one not filled with non-competitive bureaucrats who can get access to your money whether you like it or not? Hmm... One wonders.... ;-)

It remains to be seen whether the gold price will stay this high, a great deal depends on what happens regarding medical fascism in the Senate.

Hope you bought some gold a while back. As the bogus 'recovery' gets more press, stocks will rise (a lot of inflated money will go into the stock market before the dollar fizzles in an inflationary implosion) and the price of gold will moderate (before the dollar does that nutty fizzle thaang). But once that inflated cash really moves through the system, you will be happy you have gold.

Protectionism is anti-freedom. Having the government tell people what they can and cannot buy is paternalistic, elitist, and interferes with private contract, harming economic decision-making. It is conducted at the expense of consumers in order to give special favors to certain politically prefered businesses. It costs consumers up to eight times more in lost capital than the special interest businesses make after the tariffs are applied, thus retarting economic growth and progress.

Freedom requires the liberty to compete, and to allow people to choose that which they buy.

This is not a free nation, and it is becoming less so each week.

Not only is this unconstitutional, running afoul of the 4th Amendment (private medical data will be collected without your consent), the 5th, the 9th and the 10th, it is a twisting of the interstate commerce clause the likes of which we have not seen since the bankrupt Medicaid Act. It also establishes criteria for denying health care to those deemed by government to be not worthy of it, forces private insurance companies to accept people with preexisting conditions (which will drive prices skyward), and penalizes US citizens if they do not buy policies.

Now the House version and Senate version will be "reconciled".

Sweet, isn't it.

Talk about tearing off the facade of "it's an insurance account" such as was told of Social Security (falsely, by the way)...

In other words, it's stealing from people to pay a bureaucracy to skim 30% off the top, and then redistribute the loot to those without jobs. Wouldn't it be better, and more moral, to let the individuals who EARNED the money voluntarily help their neighbors, as was done throughout US history prior to the welfare state, and was done better and with better results?

Rep. Bachman, of Minnesota, came up with this idea only one week ago, yet 50,000 people turned out, including actors like Jon Voigt and John Ratzenberger. The crowd wasn't there just to shout, they were there to ACTUALLY GO INTO THE OFFICES of their Reps and tell them to stop the fascism. A great idea, and well executed. Hats off to them, even if we don't agree on every single issue, such as drug prohibition or the so-called "war" on terror, which isn't a declared War, and is therefore unconstitutional.
