Protectionism is anti-freedom. Having the government tell people what they can and cannot buy is paternalistic, elitist, and interferes with private contract, harming economic decision-making. It is conducted at the expense of consumers in order to give special favors to certain politically prefered businesses. It costs consumers up to eight times more in lost capital than the special interest businesses make after the tariffs are applied, thus retarting economic growth and progress.

Freedom requires the liberty to compete, and to allow people to choose that which they buy.

This is not a free nation, and it is becoming less so each week.
