Culture in all its forms

Bizarro world news

I don't know if they still have it,

but I remember ABC world news used to have a cube shaped "bizarro earth" graphic in the background.

wonder what sort of twisted subliminal message they we're sending with that?

Wesley Willis

FYI Gard, your jamming GVSB got me to be a cabal member.  My buddy got me listening to GVSB back in 95 and seen them open for Rage Against The Machine not too long afterwards.  I became hooked on The Jesus lizard around that time as well, hense the JL shrine I got going...  (I know I'm a drunken fool)  I appreciate your putting up with my inane bullshit.  Music can tame the harshist beast, and my drunk ass is one of them. In the words of the late great Wesley Willis " Rock over London, rock on Chicago, Wheaties - Breakfast of Champions!"

This is a tribute to the late great Wesley Willis, please laugh if you feel so but I think this man was a musical genius.

Ozric Tentacles

Ozric Tentacles are one of my favorite bands.  I almost used the version of White Rhino tea from a live album I have called "Live Underslunky"

According to the Wikipedia entry for Ozric Tentacles, the band name came from om discussions of hypothetical cereal brands.

SLADE AS PUNK AS ANY PUNK ROCK BAND HAS EVER BEEN

Joey Ramone once said of Slade "I spent most of the early 70s listening to Slade Alive! thinking to myself, "Wow - this is what I want to do. I want to make that kind of intensity for myself. A couple of years later I was at CBGB's doing my best Noddy Holder." & Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols said "Slade never compromised. We always had the feeling that they were on our side. I don't know but I think we were right."

Something tells me he'll soon do a U-turn

Harsh Reality

Three weeks ago I heard this band for the first time

Lasyt night I was on the phone to the bass players making plans for their first British tour ;)

Muse

Gard, Thanks for playing talking up Muse. I really like their stuff. They have a really big sound for a three-piece band!

James Brown

Personally I found this old clip of James Brown hilarious, take that for what it is ---->

Karl Hess:Toward Liberty

Karl Hess:Toward Liberty

Not the best quality video I'm afraid but you still can get what Karl Hess was about & he was certainly an interesting guy who had a lot of good things to say but I'd imagine somebody will tell me he was a socialist because he liked solar power or something.

Metal

So I took some time off of work and spent it w/ my dad and frineds out in IN.  My good friend who is a really good guitar player had to keep putting cd's into my shitty little boom box.  He plays the air guitar waaay better than me so I had to take that shit serious.  I figured I'd just let my little homie blare whatever kinda shit he wanted too, and keep passing me his pipe of decent herb.  So now I am either hypnotyzed by the satan shit, or I really dig these bands...  oh no it's Satan! and he says to watch ----->

Danko & The Damned

Saw Gards twitter update re: Danko and the Damned.  I think he is a little excited about this.

I am personally STOKED to see that Salt Lake City is on the list for Danko & The Damned tag team action. I tried to buy tickets but they were not yet available.  I shall be rallying my SLC friends to attend this event.

H P Lovecraft

i tried to like Lovecraft's cthullu books, but i must confess... i dont like them. he seems to use a lot of the same imagery, the same descriptions, the same everything. Plus, i dont find these stories all that imaginative, and i dont find them scary at all. am i the only horror story heretic out there?

I've Heard That Riff Before

I thought I'd start a thread where people can post songs they reckon borrow or rip off riffs from other songs.

Of course two bands which are big culprits of this are Oasis & Jet.

Here's Jet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dsme4viQiU&feature=related

Here's the Iggy Pop's Lust For Life

Sound familiar?

Here's Paul Weller's Changingman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgP0YzSNYhc

Which the riff has been been lifted from this song

Song vs Song suggestion, (Creative Commons music)

I don't understand why Gard promotes copyrighted songs in his podcast. I mean its not about the legality, but more about the philosophy. Copyrighted songs intend to use government granted monopoly to make money. On the other hand there are numerous artists and bands out there who have released their music under Creative Commons and they have no exposure because they don't have big recording labels behind them.

I believe that the Cabal should do more to promote these artists who(for whatever reasons) have decided to not use the government monopoly to make money. We wonder why there aren't truely Liberty oriented music out there, the truth is a music cannot be truely Liberty oriented if it is brought to you by the government monopoly.
