I've Heard That Riff Before
I thought I'd start a thread where people can post songs they reckon borrow or rip off riffs from other songs.
Of course two bands which are big culprits of this are Oasis & Jet.
Here's Jet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dsme4viQiU&feature=related
Here's the Iggy Pop's Lust For Life
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr-b0PYpASQ
Sound familiar?
Here's Paul Weller's Changingman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgP0YzSNYhc
Which the riff has been been lifted from this song

I was quite disappointed to find out Paul would be listening to ElO
But here's the weirdest
Here's one Goth band ripping off another
Here's All The Pretty Horses

Here's one of mine & Gard's favourite bands The Cult
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_rEQ-nsQQM
All The Pretty Horses do is play the riff at a slower tempo
A good series of similar songs is the metal that sounds like other metal series. There are at least 10 videos with probably 10 examples each of bands with similar riffs.

Also, here is one for more pop kind of music.

Lots of bands have similar riffs all the time. Don't even get me started on 12 bar blues. It's hard to be original and instead people are sold on the authenticity if music rather than the originality.
Believe it or not Nirvana's Smell's Like Teen Spirit is rip off of this riff
Here's Deep Purple's Hush firstly ripped off by The Charlatans & then by Kula Shaker who also did do a version of Hush
