NH NEWS and SOUND - Governor John Lynch Proposes More State Regulation on Energy Production
Great idea, especially when energy costs are on eveyone's minds.
The rationale is that NH can lead the way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Manchester Union Leader, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is being touted by the Lynch Administration as a market alternative to government regulations that tell energy producers how to run their businesses.
Such rhetoric is deceptive. Some might just use the term "bogus". Regulation is regulation, it can be made a bit more acceptable to the general public by trying to provide tradeable pollution credits, but this is not a true market alternative. A market alternative is precisely that, run and regulated by the MARKET, not politicians. The science behind such policies is highly questionable as well. Hear Lawrence Kogan, CEO of the Institute for Trade, Standards and Sustainable Development.

News and Sound -- FISA Court Judge Resigns, Possibly Over Concerns About Bush Administration Policy
According to the Washington Post, US District Judge James Robertson, one of the eleven judges working in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, resigned late Monday, giving no explanation.
The "Post" reports that two associates familiar with Robertson's decision explained that it was his concerns over the Bush Administration policy of conducting covert, warrantless wiretaps which inspired him to leave his post.

News and Sound Together -- News on Johnny Damon and Vice President Cheney, Who Has an Unusual Perspective on the Constitution
As cited by the Associated Press, Vice President Dick Cheney appears to have a different take on the US Constitution than that established by the Founding Fathers.
Commenting on the controversy of the Bush Administration conducting warrentless surveillance of Americans, in contravention of the 1978 Foreign Surveillance Intelligence Act, Cheney lamented the fact that since the 1970's the office of the President has had much of its power curtailed.
For example, when reporting on Cheney's comments regarding the War Powers Act, the AP stated:
"Cheney told reporters that in his view, presidential authority has been weakened since the 1970s through laws such as the War Powers Act, which Cheney says infringes on presidential authority. "
Domestic Wiretapping -- It's Flavorific...
According to the 1978 "Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act" (USC Title 50, Chapter 36, Subchapter I), the President of the United States is given by Congress the power to conduct electronic surveillance of foreigners under these conditions:
(1) Notwithstanding any other law, the President, through the Attorney General, may authorize electronic surveillance without a court order under this subchapter to acquire foreign intelligence information for periods of up to one year if the Attorney General certifies in writing under oath that— (A) the electronic surveillance is solely directed at— (i) the acquisition of the contents of communications transmitted by means of communications used exclusively between or among foreign powers, as defined in section 1801 (a)(1), (2), or (3) of this title.
More on the Patriot Act in the US Senate, and on the NYT report on Bush's 'Secret' Wiretaps
As we mentioned on Friday, December 16th, the wiretaps sanctioned by the Bush Administration are nothing new, and Congressmen and Senators have known about them for years.
Newsmax.com has also noted that "60 Minutes" already covered the Clinton Administration eavesdropping program, "Echelon", which has been conducting warrantless wiretaps for years. This does not excuse the Bush Administration, but indicts the leftist media very well.

Leftists Unite Behind Criticism of the TERRIBLE -- and Nonexistent -- Cuts in the New Budget
The trouble is, there ARE no real cuts, just slower growth in domestic spending: sure, you know, the "Constitutional" programs like farm subsidies, welfare, medicare, medicaid, highway spending, OSHA, the FDA, AMTRAK, PBS. Shall we continue? We certainly could! And what a pleasure it would be.
Hear the statist economic argument in favor of more taxation and redistribution of wealth, with Josh Lynn, a research associate attached to the Center for American Progress, in Washington, DC.

The Bush Adminstration Calls for Secret Wire Taps and E-Mail Checks -- Why the NY Times is Losing Readership
Perhaps it is because they are so slow, biased, and time pieces for political effect. This article is a supposed "revelation", that the Bush Administration gave the go-ahead after 9/11/01 for the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on Americans without search warrants, in order to search for evidence of terrorist activity.
See the piece here: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/15/politics/15cnd-program.html
The article is a long look at how the Bush Administration enacted a policy in which a domestic warrant would be circumvented, and permission to allow for wiretaps and e-mail monitoring would be placed under the purview of the "Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, a "secret Washington court that deals with national security issues."

Kathy Sullivan Has a Short Memory
NH Democrat Party Chairman Kathy Sullivan (frequent recipient of the weekly Bad Attitude Award from "Against the Grain", on WNTK 99.7 FM) made it official December 13, 2005; she is angry.
Why?
On the day in question, NH Republican Party Chairman Warren Henderson filed an election-law complaint against the former manager of the Bob Baines re-election campaign. According to the complaint, Henderson said that Geoff Wetrosky, the Baines staffer who was living at Sullivan's abode, and had been accused by witnesses of stealing political signs of Baines opponent (and now future Mayor) Frank Guinta, and taking them to Sullivan's house, signed a false affidavit prior to voting on November 8, 2005.

After years of wondering, many Americans are finally beginning to get a better idea of why the Japanese government attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941.
Many people suspected that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt not only maneuvered the United States into a position in which the Japanese military would initiate an attack, he might have known the general time and place of the attack.
Stinnet's book takes a close look at this, using new information only accessable after great effort to open previously sealed US documents.
It is an essential revision of the

For many years, New Hampshire distinguished itself from Massachusetts by being a place where people could live and conduct their lives more freely, where the heavy hand of paternalistic government was less present, and people were trusted to make decisions for themselves. Unfortunately, the “granite state” has recently been mimicking its southern neighbor far too often. Case in point: A proposal sponsored by Hampton Representative Sheila Francoeur to ban smoking in “public” establishments accommodating less than fifty people.

Not only does he cite cases of government waste, department by department, he also provides suggestions to decrease the burden of government on the productive economy it always impedes.
