Hillary Clinton Curries Favor With Vets -- The FDA Investigates ADHD Drugs for Our Safety

Listen to this segment from "Against the Grain" for an update on the carpetbagger of NY, and her inevitable race to the Democrat party Presidential nomination.

Also, after years, the FDA is finally investigating drugs to handle ADHD. Nice that they gave people the impression the drugs are safe.

"Caveat Emptor" is not something that is exercised to the extent it ought to be when a government agency tells us it is going to watch products for us. Our own vigilence decreases.

Ann Marie Morse, and Michelle's Law in New Hampshire

Ann Marie Morse, the mother of a young NH woman who passed away late in 2005 due to colon cancer, has successfully seen the passage of HB 37 "Michelle's Law" (sic) in the NH House. It now goes to the state Senate, where it will undoubtedly pass.

It is important to note that one should not overlook the principles of freedom when studying an emptionally powerful proposal such as "Michelle's Law". The bill, if passed, would force health insurance companies doing business in the state to have to continue covering students under "full-time" student clauses in their parents' policies. The requirement lasts for one year after the offspring might be unable to carry a full coarse load due to catastrophic illness.

Claremont Representative Proposes Psychiatric Testing of 'Threatening' Students

Democrat John Cloutier, of Claremont, has proposed a bill that would require any student who threatens to harm another student, teacher, administrator of staff member to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. If the student, or his or her parents, refuse to comply with the state dictate, the school or police could petition the court to either enact sanctions, or force the test.

Many questions arise when looking at this issue. Representative Cloutier is justifiably worried about the dangers posed to children and government school employees by children who may wish to do them harm. Critics of his proposal wonder about its ambiguities, its efficacy, and the dangers it would pose for abuse and the tarnishing of a child's reputation.

New Study Indicates that US College Graduates Are Less Literate Than Ten Years Ago

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the literacy rate for US college graduates has dropped nearly ten percentage points in ten years.

The report, cited in an article by Lois Romano, of the Washington Post, reveals that 41 percent of graduate students tested in 2003 could be classified as "proficient" in prose -- reading and understanding information in short texts. This was a drop of ten percentage points since 1992. For college graduates, the numbers were even more dismal. Wheras 1992 saw 40 percent who were proficient, 2003 saw only 31 percent proficient. In other words, American college graduates -- the recipients of the most government programs, funded by state and federal elementary and high schools programs, as well as the recipients of the most federal largess given out for government college grants and low-interest college loans -- are now WORSE off than they were ten years ago.

Dick Cheney and Russ Feingold on Domestic Surveillance

On Friday, December 23, "Against the Grain" featured an analysis of two sides of the "domestic spying" issue recently "brought to light" by the New York Times (it was already reported in James Bovard's book "The Bush Betrayal", over a year ago.

The third side of the issue, not mentioned in the POP media, is that the US Constitution is being disregarded, but both Republicans and Democrats. Hear a sample of Dick Cheney and Russ Feingold on this federal issue, and come to your own conlucions.
