Local governments will now compete with car rental companies
(04/30/10) MOUNT VERNON - Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young announced a plan yesterday that will provide energy efficient cars used by government officials to residents who wish to use them in the evenings for a fee.
A Blog Bleg
Hello fellow conspirators. Having been inspired by the muse to get the word out, I recently started a blog call "On Political Economy" (http://onpoliticaleconomy.blogspot.com). In it, I discuss politics and liberty. I'd invite any co-conspirators to stop by, check it out, and say hello. If you like it, spread the word, and if you don't, please give me your suggestions.
Thanks - Stevo
Fire management on privately owned property
I'm currently working on a capstone project for a masters degree in natural resource management. Im proposing in my thesis that private ownership of public lands (e.g. national and state forests) would provide better fire management, remediation, and sustainability than government can provide. Needless to say, I look forward to hearing what fellow conspirators have to say, and would appreciate any suggestions you all might have. I'm particularly interested in hearing from property owners that have had to deal with fire issues and how they managed them.
Gards talk with Ziggy
Gard in his talk with Ziggy stated that we should not keep any cultural heritage sites unless preserved by the citizens not the Government.
I therefore propose that the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia be sold for Scrap.
It is worth about $3500 as scrap and must cost thousands per year in up keep, so scrap it.
I mean it is just a lump of metal and hold no significant cultural heritage.
IF the citizen want to preserve it then they should step up.
Culture can only advance by destroying the past. (Mao)
Venus Project?
I keep seeing videos on YouTube and people mentioning Zeitgeist and the Venus project, and i was a little worried about this, because it appears to be kind of popular, and it looks like some high-tech communism. It has me worried a bit, because many people believe "capitalism" is the cause of the financial crisis. Now there is some girl on YouTube with a Venus project challenge thing(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7l3aGOuc0s). Anyway, what do you guys think about all of this?
What Gard Cut Out Of The Last Pod About the Lib Dems
I do genuinely appreciate that Gard cut down the conversation we recorded on Monday evening into palatable sections; however in the process the Gard did cut out a point I made about why libertarians should check out the Liberal Democrats & so I’ll post here & now.
The single treason why I’d encourage libertarians do check out the Liberal Democrats is that for decades since the time of David Lloyd George the party ethos & therefore the party policies have reflected a commitment to the devolution of power.
Libertarians might not find it ideal, but the world isn’t ideal & its better that the power of governance is held closer to the man in the street then higher up the hierarchical.
67 Year Old Woman Arrested for Unauthorized Gardening
I guarantee you that the Oak Cliff police department has far worse problems than this. Murders may go unsolved, but rest assured the greenbelt is now protected from volunteer pruning.

People You Don’t happen To Think Badly Of Who Don’t happen To Be Libertarian
There’s another discussion going on currently on the forum entitled ‘People I like who aren't necessarily libertarians’ & it somewhat disturbs me.
Happy Birthday Thomas Szasz
One of the greatest libertarians has just turned 90. Here's Sheldon Richman's write-up.

People I like who aren't necessarily libertarians
There are a lot of people I like even though they may not be "pure" libertarians. The reason I like these people is because they are honest straight-shooters and/or they do great work promoting liberty. Feel free to disagree or add to my list.
David Martin, social critic, historian. I first starting reading his articles during the Clinton Administration. I would highly recommend "America's Dreyfus Affair" http://dcdave.com/article5/
Americans for Tax Reform is a phony organization
Firstly, it is run by Grover Norquist who is and was an ally of Newt Gingrich, the quintessential Big Government Republican.
Secondly, any organization that gives Ron Paul an 85% and an 82% rating is suspect. It seems as though their rating system is skewed towards a conservative interpretation of "less government".

Lastly, the pledge itself is a joke.
"I, _______________, pledge to the taxpayers of the _____ district
Nearly half of US households escape fed income tax. Wrong!
There was a recent article that has been making the rounds stating that 53% of Americans "escape" the income tax.

Could Somebody Please Educate My friend Shovel on the benefits of Globalization
In response to a conversation I had with Shovel which I thought was off the record she wrote this article
Globalisation is Bad for the UK - Libertarians just don't get it
Now I ain’t got the time right now to educate her on the merits of there being globalization but I thought there are libertarians such as myself who do support a global free market free from the constraints of nationalistic restraint & might know more then I the benefits of such a situation .
