(04/30/10) MOUNT VERNON - Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young announced a plan yesterday that will provide energy efficient cars used by government officials to residents who wish to use them in the evenings for a fee.

Government workers would use the vehicles during the day, turning them over to residents who have paid the annual $25 fee at night.

Participants in the program could go online to reserve certain vehicles. Mount Vernon is the first city in the entire country to offer the unique program.

”We have to think outside the box,” Mayor Young says. “We have a strong commitment to our green initiative, and we’re trying new things.”
