Anti Gun Control Petition

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/nogunlaws/

Okay though this is anti gun control petition on the Downing Street website it can be signed by anybody with an email address, so it doesn't have to be signed by just UK citizens & from what I've been told by the individual who set up the petition the more who sign this petition the higher the petition gets ranked. Higher ranking = more exposure to the issue. There is no way anybody would believe this petition will result in the liberalisation of UK gun laws but it could give more exposure to the issue & so I ask that people send & post the relevant info about this petition.

Anyone notice if drug busts are on the rise?

I don't know if I'm only becoming more aware of these stories since I've gotten deeper into the liberty movement or is the war on drugs escalating because in my area there were three major marijuana growing busts and another arrest involving dealers that actually got money HUD for the apartment. Now an old lady in Indiana gets arrested for buying cold medication http://www.reason.com/blog/show/136361.html

The UN Attempts To Oppress Free Speech

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRb2OKPBswM

There's attempt by the UN to introduce a binding resolution to oppress free speech which the UN totally superseding its remit & a shocking infringement upon the universal declaration of human rights as well as a severe infringement upon basic civil liberties.

It Appears Not All Socialists Are Keen Gun Control

Came across this article published on a socialist blog that seems mot be so keen on gun control, yes you heard right socialists who aren't keen on gun control.

I think its important to remember that its not only libertarians or conservatives who believe individuals have the right to bear arms.

Antiwar.com

Dear Reader,

Since Antiwar.com began in December 1995, we have been through a lot with you, our readers. We've seen wars in the Middle East, the Balkans, and Africa, the damage done at home, and the destructive policies of three presidents.

Antiwar.com held a microscope to Bill Clinton's interventions in Kosovo, his official policy of regime-change in Iraq, his bombings, and his sanctions.

Pete and Jason of Motorhome Diaries Arrested in Mississippi

http://www.reason.com/blog/show/133499.html

It's not clear why, but they were apparently pulled over yesterday in Jones County, Mississippi. Passenger Adam Mueller attempted to videotape the traffic stop, and was arrested for doing so. It isn't clear what happened next, but Talley and Eyre were also eventually arrested, Eyre for possession of a beer in a dry county, and Talley for disorderly conduct, disobeying, and resisting arrest.

They're due to be arraigned tomorrow.

Uh-oh! ID cards in the UK...

This is bloody awful news:

(From BBC website)

Manchester will this autumn become the first city where people can sign up for an ID card, Jacqui Smith is to confirm.

Anyone over 16 in the city with a UK passport will be able to apply for a card from the Home Office.

The home secretary's speech signals her determination to push ahead with the cards, which will initially cost £30, despite opposition.

The Tories and Lib Dems want the £5bn scheme scrapped, while some Labour MPs have expressed doubts about its cost.

People in Manchester who want an ID card can register their interest on the Directgov website.

Germans forbidden from using 'multiple' names...

I really found this unbelievable - but here you have it:

Just shows you how very close we are to being 'numbers'... EEK!

Some worrying moves in Europe...

I posted this on the FTL forum, originally, but would be interested in the thoughts of fellow conspirators:

(From the Irish Times)

'THE CONSTITUTIONAL article guaranteeing freedom of expression should be amended to remove all references to sedition and blasphemy, according to the Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution.

It recommended that the article should be redrafted along the lines of article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which deals with freedom of expression....'

Here's the full article:

And the excerpt of the report that apalled me the most:

Good Samaritan Nailed for Jay Walking?

If the govt didn't own the roads, this would be a less tricky issue.

Boston GLOB: "End Free Speech"

This is totally disgusting.

http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2009/02/15/time_for_a_m...

"At stake is the basic question of what we will allow people to say and do online, whether it's on a message board, a Craigslist ad, or a YouTube video - and who gets to set the rules governing what's OK and what's not. As the Web grows increasingly interactive, the system of informal and formal rules that determines appropriate behavior is only beginning to emerge, and thinkers on both sides of the debate agree that courts can go a long way toward shaping it. The argument over what to do about online speech, in other words, is an argument over whether the Web's unruly nature is something to be celebrated or tamed."

"Fairness" Doctrine
