2 NH Legislators Follow Massachusetts in Attempt to Force Businesses to Not Serve Trans Fats

Two NH Representatives have jumped into the fray to regulate food servers. Praise gub-ment! They want to BAN the EEEEVIL TRANS FATS!

Paladins they may think they are. But it might seem to observers that: A. How people eat is not a matter for legislators to investigate, and B. The NH Constitution has no provision allowing them to attempt to regulate businesses in this way.

Here is the piece from the AP. What do you think?

"CONCORD, N.H. -- Two Portsmouth Democrats are on a mission to ban New Hampshire restaurants and stores from preparing and selling food made with heart-damaging trans fats.

The bill sponsored by Reps. Paul McEachern and Jim Splaine was scheduled for a hearing Tuesday before the House Commerce Committee.

Under the proposal, restaurants and stores found to be repeatedly violating the trans fat ban would "constitute an immediate endangerment of public health and safety." Offending businesses could lose their food service licenses.

If it passes, the ban would go into effect on Jan. 1, 2008.

New York City approved a trans fat ban in December.

Bills to restrict or banish trans fats in restaurants or school cafeterias -- or require warnings about them -- have been introduced in at least 18 states."

This is the kind of thinking that exposes the idiocy of the statists. Good job, 55.
