We received this letter from Mothyspace, a fellow conspirator based in Australia, and wanted to share it with you. Oz is a country which has already taken huge steps towards socialized medicine, and the ill effects of it are shown in this story. "... A friend of mine has been experiencing health problems here in Australia. He has systemic inner ear problems and requires a major operation. The problem is there is no real free-market approach to services that reduce the costs through "more" competition. This is because all the providers, both public and private, are regulated by the Government!

He was quoted $4500AUD to get the op done privately. Problem is, the bumbling Government bureaucracy has made him wait 3 years to go from the bottom of the public waiting list to the top because he can't afford the over priced private fee. If there was more competition, the price would come down to affordable levels, but because of the Govt controls it has forced him to wait on the Public Waiting list.

It's incredible that the same political party in Queensland also currently leads the Federal Government, and our Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was the head of the Queensland Public Service 10 years ago. He was the one who started the current dire situation with Govt regulation of medical infrastructure and provision in Queensland. WE ARE MAD AS HELL!

He (the friend) really has been experiencing the day-to-day frustrations of Government and its unholy power in regulating his life.

Ordinarily he would have been able to freely afford the cost to choose to get it done privately.

But because of the Queensland Government's incompetence, in not diagnosing him faster and not pushing him onto the waiting list earlier, what should have taken only 6 months will stretch out another 18 months taking the time to be seen to almost 4 years! He lost his job and has been unemployed for a year waiting for the procedure!

It's extraordinary how the truth of Government intrusion in our daily lives at the bureaucratic level can be so pervasive as to force someone onto the scrap heap who was an ordinary freedom loving, productive member of society.

I've started a fundraiser for him and I'm thinking about encouraging him to complain to the media. He's a bit embarrassed about it all, because he just wants to move on and do his own thing freely again.
