NH Govt Leads the Way: Towards Socialism
Anyone hear about this? Thankfully, Andrew Napolitano brought it up on his fill-in slot for Glenn Beck on 11-10-09. We will discusss in detail the political-economic ramifications of this in an upcoming audio production. Right now, let's just mention a few facts...
The gubment of NH is going to support part of a loan to the "Eagle Times", a newspaper that covers the so-called "upper valley". The "upper valley" is the geographic host to the parasitic city of Claremont, which has been sucking off the public teat for a long time. Whether it be in the form of suing the state to get money for local government-run eduction, or trying to get special 'renovation' projects paid by the state, this city is like a little piece of Boston right in NH.
Now comes this. The participants in the market have decided not to purchase the crappy "Eagle Times" newspaper in sufficient quantities that would keep it in business. Instead, people are choosing to put their money into other investments, investments that reflect their personal choices as to what is productive and valuable. But the gubment functionaries don't agree with their choices, and will now use taxpayer money (actually, it will be borrowed money which will cost taxpayeers even more later -- because the state of NH is bankrupt and has to borrow the mnoney) to keep the newspaper in business.
If the horse buggy manufacturers had gotten these kinds of artificial interventions made on their behalf, they would have stayed in business longer -- at the expense of other businesses that naturally grew as the consumers chose cars instead of carriages. Progress is dependent on voluntary human choice in economics, freedom, not arbitrary gubment manipulation.
Take a look at this story that only got national attention last night, and then feel free to contact the members of the "Executive Council" to tell them to jump in a gubment-owned lake.
