I guess that depends on how one defines "heavy". On the "Sabbath-metal" side, I've been into Witch. But then again, there's the garage punk heaviness of the first three releases by "DEMONS", from Stockholm, and some of the Backyard Babies material is amazing, as is "Killing Allin", by Hellacopters.
Most recently, I've been really liking Fu Manchu. Love the use of the wa-waa.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kDee_FZ_GU (Merseburger ZaubersprĂĽche II - taken from the second of two texts known as the Merseburger Incantations, this is a metal rendition of an ancient Norse poem. Appropriately, it is sung in a sort of low chant.)

i dig (early) KMFDM (pre-ATTAK) while not explicitly anarcho-capitalist, they have a apolitical kind of thing goin on. plus they straight rock. best industrial metal act ever.
Gwar! My pal Mick just went to see them, but in doing so, he lost the chance to see the Damned, Electric Frankenstein, and BellRays, which clearly tips the scales to a net loss for him on that one, I think.
Ministry was really affected by bands like Front 242. I remember seeing Ministry in Boston at The Channel, at the WFNX Second Anniversay party, and it was after "With Sympathy" (the disc we all know Al Jourgenson despizes and over which he didn't really have any creative control, but which still has some cool synthy songs on it), and before "Twitch". Front 242 was the opening band, and when those two nuts came out I was floored! My first taste of industrial besides hearing Fad Gadget on the radio. AWESOME!
Turned out that when Ministry came out, people were stunned at how violent and intense it was, because the music was free from te constraints of "With Sympathy". I was, again, floored, and loved it. Then "Twitch" came out, and blew me away. I didn't agree with all the politics, but the sound was directly influenced by Front 242.
It's my firm belief that Trent Reznor was heavily influenced by "Twitch", which is my favorite Ministry disc. I should use some cuts for the podcasts!
Danzig, Pantera, Tool, Black Sabath.......real tough choice for me..........

However! Confusedious says! The heaviest band ... IS...... Melvins!
Love Jello, but is he a bit lefty, or is it just me?
Okay so Gardner, I was just watching this video I put a link for and genious strook! Maybe not the best of ideas, but it's an idea non the less. What if someone could change the audio of this song to say "The Power Of Gard!"! I think it would kick ass!
Damage Plan was awesome in my book... Dimebag is a true rock legend!
D.R.I. , Prong, Rammstein, KMFDM, Ministry... all good.
can't forget Slayer.. Diabolus in Musica, Divine Intervention & decade of agression are my favorite albums of theirs.
I also have to give a respectful nod to Black Sabbath, without them we wouldn't have metal.
not metallica... I used to be a huge fan, but they we're really never the same after cliff died. Not to mention they went mainstream and started to suck.
I like NailBomb too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nailbomb

G!
When my friends and I were younger we used to love GWAR.
When my friends and I were younger we used to love GWAR.
hahah! Gwar are an outrageous band! In a totally cool way, of course!
(I think, in a weird way, I used to quite fancy the Gwar-ette!)
I like a lot of heavy stuff:
Mazza Manson, Rob Zombie, King's X, Arch Enemy, the Crue, Electric Wizard etc.
Most interesting heavy band, at the moment, are Gallhammer - 3 piece Japanese semi-dooms/ semi-punks. Nice!
Currently I'm on a big Mittelalter (metal mixed with medieval/folk music) kick, and my favorite of that sub-genre is In Extremo.
Some notable favorite songs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5xpetbcULA (Der Rattenfänger - I love the folk interludes in this one, and the mandolin strumming during the verses)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksfWmJsQg4A (Liam - awesome pipes on this one)

A subject I love and take too far.
Speaking of industrial I was a big Ministry fan for years http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBGMW86u1Qk now more thrash than industrial

I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.

(Art Of Shredding has some old school glam singing, still seems to be a bit catchy these days...)
Pantera doesn't need mentioning. It is automaticaly assumed in every heavy music thread.
HAHAH! Just got to read more of the thread! Good point!
So many bands, tough to choose...
Sepultura is definately in the top 5 for me.
Pantera is one of my favs.
