The other day Gard was extolling the virtues of Stefan Molyneux. And, indeed, there is much there that is admirable. However, there is also a pretty dark side to the Molyneux phenomenon. For a fuller picture and access to related sources, check out the debate at my blog

Copericus,

I read the blog.  I agree with your position.

Doesn't Molyneux and his cult following also say that any use of force by parents is a violation of the NAP?  How they plan on stopping it, even in a stateless society, is beyond me.  In addition, I've always been confused by those who are atheists, but act as though libertarianism is not just another religion.

If I can paraphrase Thomas Szasz, parents are prison wardens and some are better than others.

Relinquish liberty for the purposes of defense in an emergency?
Why? It would seem that in an emergency, of all times, one needs
his greatest strength. So if liberty is strength and slavery is weakness,
liberty is a necessity rather than a luxury, and we can ill afford
to be without it—least of all during an emergency.

I've noticed some Objectivists have pretty much swapped the bible for Atlas Shrugged.

I've also met smack addicts who have swapped smack for god

I guess we all need some kind of crutch

From my experience Stefan Molyneux has never been afraid to engage with other intellectuals in a respectful manner.

He provides a weekly 2 hour call-in show on Sundays at 2pm est that anyone can call into to converse with him.  That doesn't come across as "afraid" to me.

I could be wrong.  This is just my experience.

As for parents using force against their children being a violation of the non-aggression principle, I don't believe that is something only Stefan Molyneux asserts.  It's pretty clear logically that a parent initiating or threatening violence against their child is a violation of the non-aggression principle.
