When I think about the USA and soccer, it reminds me of the Shaggs versus Jimi Hendrix. The US are the poor, feckless, incapable kids who are always in there trying to jarr a few notes out of their amps, but there's Hendrix playing a burning guitar! Really... We all know who comes out on top, right? :-)

Maybe someday things will improve! Perhaps the federal gubment can get involved and do a "talent bailout"! (smirk!)

LOL

Funny enough FIFA (soccer's governing body) have strict rules about governments interfering in the regulation or how the game is run. Basically all the national football associations must be free from government interference.

England are the stronger side and should win the match, but it would be a mistake to look past the US team - just ask Spain.  Regardless of the outcome of the first match, look for England and US to advance.

USA did better than Australia, lets just put it that way.

Was impressed that a non-traditional soccer nation could put together a competitive side.

Problem we have in Oz is we put too much pressure on our sporting heroes and they crack like a half poached egg.

Atleast the ashes cricket series is coming up, so we can stick it to the Poms ;-D

USA have just got beat by Ghana, which in fact is something of a surprise result.

What won't be is Germany beating England tomorrow

Always disappointing to get eliminated, but overall a well-played tournament from the US side, and they've gained a lot of new fans here by their performance.  Hopefully this effort will spark some additional interest in the sport here.

I'll be rooting for England and Spain from here on out...best of luck!
