Whether its Princess Di (a Sloane Ranger who got lucky) or Jade Goody (a talentless chav) the contemporary mainstream media generally goes over the top in praise when some celeb dies. There's been plenty of it since Michael Jackson croaked about him being the greatest pop star ever & etc. I never rated the man or his music; I think criticism concerning his behaviour towards children is just & I think there's just criticism concerning the messianic egotism which he often attempted to perpetrate. But I think criticism concerning Michael Jackson radically changing his image is unjust.

At Michael Jackson's funeral Rev Al Sharpton delivered a rather over the top eulogy in which he stated that society created Michael Jackson. One might very well think that statement is utter bullshit after all Michael Jackson had the wealth & the position that wealth created to choose his own destiny. However where society is at fault is when it comes to use social convention as a means of authoritarianism, basically because Michael Jackson wanted to look like a white woman then a Black man he was the butt many people's distain towards individualism.

The bottom line one owns their own body so long as one doesn't harm anybody in the process what one does with their own body is their business. Michael Jackson wanted to change his image & so what's the problem especially as it was his own body to do what he liked with. But Michael Jackson got the tag of Wacko Jacko because it wasn't the average thing people did.

I've found out myself that if you don't play by convention how people try to tag you that somehow your disturbed. All I'm saying is why do we have these stupid conventions like men don't wear skirts, you must use your fork with your left hand when by not adhering too such conventions your not actually harming anybody. Personally if we had a society where people respected individuality far more then oppress it then the likes of Michael Jackson wouldn't of been tagged as a weirdo & might not of been as unhappy.

Personally I'd like a society in which people respect & encourage individuality & not attempt to oppress & piss on it as happens now. Its time people realize the convention that should count is that so long as nobody is harming another then there's no harm. Its time people ceased trying to control the lives of others, in fact its time the notion was bashed out of many a psyche that people seem to think they own the lives of others. Many a libertarian seems to think that its just government that seems to claim ownership over individuals, in my experience its not just government there are many an individual in society who seem to think they have a right to control others or practically own the destiny of others.

Maybe because it wasn't government at fault when it came to Michael Jackson that libertarians have been rather quiet in defending Michael Jackson's right to be whoever he wanted to be despite of societal convention. In fact a libertarian friend of mine whose a writer & broadcaster kind intimated the other day that the guy was a wacko for all the plastic surgery he had, somewhat of a disappointing opinion from a libertarian considering how much libertarians value individual sovereignty. I think libertarians realize its not just government at fault it's the populous who cling on to pointless conventions or try to oppress others with pointless conventions.

I do believe that the nonsense that surrounded MJ's personal life was mere herd mentality.

The only 'crime' I think Jackson was guilty of was being unique in a world where such is seen as widely unaccpetable.

RIP, dude.

Like I said in my post in the music thread, I adored Michael Jackson in the early years of my life.  I found some activity of Mr. Jackson to be quite disheartnening, but altering his appearance was not one of them.  Perhaps my piece ( http://www.libertyconspiracy.com/forum/michael_jackson_just_beat_it ) had a tone that was a bit harsh.

Changing his appearance was his business.  Although the man apparently did have a disease that caused his skin to lose pigmentation (vitiligo *), he may have worked to enhance that.  I still liked his music.

He was unique amongst people inhabiting this planet.  His dreams don't seemed to have been actualized, and that is sad.
