Start Global Warming, Please
It hasn't gotten above the freezing mark for a week here in East Tennessee. Our koi pond is a solid chunk of ice. We had to get heated water bowls for all of our outside dogs (we have a bunch of resuces in different pens at our barn at the bottom of the hill). The cattle tank from which we draw the dogs' water is an ice cube and now has several small holes from the expansion of the ice. Last night it snowed, so I had to walk up the hill to our house because our vehicle started to slide off the driveway. Walking up that hill in the snow is no small feat, either--about 1/3 of a mile at a significant incline. I was going to take my 4-wheeler back down to get my wife, but it wouldn't start because it had been sitting outside and was too cold. Needless to say, she wasn't a happy camper. In all, last night I had to walk up and down the drive 3 times. Right now, it is 15 degrees with a wind chill of 1 degree. Today, I've got to get our SUV out of the way, plow the driveway, and get some tire chains so we can get around.
If this is global warming, I'm moving to one of these.

I talked w/ fellow conspirator Ziggy, in the U.K. yesterday, he is hating life at the moment. As you may know, in Europe, they are having one of the worst winters since the early 1980s.
Before Christmas holiday, Ziggy's land line phone and internet connection were severed by public works crews doing street repair. They said he would be returned to service on January 8, 2010. However, since the incredibly cold temperatures and frozen precipitant have hit the area with abundance, they have pushed back the date to restore his service until, get this, FEBRUARY 9, 2010! Ziggy is really upset about this, and I communicated with him via skype on his pay as you go cell phone, which costs him dearly to use.
ZIggy also relayed information about the State's incompetent maintenance of "their" system of roadways. The gubment was ill prepared for winter, and have RUN OUT OF ROAD SALT and grit for the road. Most roads are covered with a sheet of ice, which is crippling many sectors of the economy, because people cannot get into work. Specifically he mentioned that hospitals are having to only staff essential personnel, with elective surgeries and such being postponed.
But, there is good news to report in all this, Ziggy reported that he has been won over to the side of anarchism.
I will call Ziggy next weekend for an update on his situation.
I'm doing my part to contribute to global warming since I use an OTC inhaler instead of a prescription one so every now and then I destroy the ozone layer by releasing CFCs. Citizen X my mom who spends her winters in Florida is feeling the affects of the cold front too but not as bad as you've gotten or had to deal with what Ziggy's going through. The bullshit that he has to put up with makes me wish that there was a real Harry Tuttle to bypass all the bureaucratic garbage and him back online.
The news was making a big deal out of how the counties and the state were prepared for the inclement weather. Hahahaha. The roads are still bad in some areas. Meanwhile, I scraped my drive with a tractor and a blade, and it is clean as a whistle. Luckily, a friend helped me run some errands while I still couldn't get down the drive. I should have been more prepared, but next time I will be thanks to this incident. Just goes to show that you should not rely on the State for anything.

Don't you know that global temps can DECREASE because of global WARMING? SURE! Al Gore says so!
Citizen X, the trouble is that you don't have Al Gore to help you get up your hill. A good government program ought to take care of that trifling little problem!

I'm probably one of the very few people on this board who actually believes in man-made climate change. lol
I actually that the cause of global climate change (either warmer or cooler) does have some anthropogenic ties. I believe very strongly that the bulk of the warming/cooling is caused by the activity of the sun, but the activities of human beings augment the effect of the sun on the temperature of the earth.
Climate change has always occurred. Climate change used to be called weather! I wish I had cable, then I could tune into the Climate Change Channel.
It's not that I'm in any way scientifically minded, and, therefore, learned on these matters. It's more that I've no reason to argue against the vast majority of the scientific community. Similarly, I'm not going to argue against the same community when it comes to evidence regarding origin of species.
Plus, it makes common sense for even a fool like me to believe that pumping all manner of shit into the ecosystem is going to be bad for the environment and atmosphere.
Of course, what we'll all agree on is the way forward regarding this. It must always be voluntary. There are plenty of groups best placed to deal with these issues, and attract funding to promote better care of the environment. The world's governments will only fuck it up, spending waaaay too much money doing so.
