Spaghetti Westerns
Just finished watching the Sergio Leone classic For a Few Dollars More (1965)
A Clint Eastwood classic!
Got me thinking about how not many really good Westerns are made these days.
Gotta get some more westerns like that in the pipeline I reckon. Classic stuff!
An interesting footnote is the fact that Lee Van Cleef who played Colonel Douglas Mortimer also appeared in the Twilight Zone in 1961.
I really hope someone out there writes a classic novel or something with that "period piece" style in mind.
The last good Western I remember was Unforgiven in the 90s.
Any thoughts?
cheers,

I have Joe Kidd, not a Spaghetti Western, sitting next to me. I have only seen it in parts. I agree with you about The Unforgiven. Before that, Pale Rider.
Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women; when it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it

Relinquish liberty for the purposes of defense in an emergency?
Why? It would seem that in an emergency, of all times, one needs
his greatest strength. So if liberty is strength and slavery is weakness,
liberty is a necessity rather than a luxury, and we can ill afford
to be without it—least of all during an emergency.

During the 90's there was a bit of a western revival with not just Unforgiven I think Tombstone came out about a year later. I don't know if we'll get any more spaghetti westerns but I'll take another space western series. It seems like the pioneer spirit that drove people to venture westwardly is either dead or dormant in the general population.
For a Few Dollars More is a rarity it’s a sequel better then the original
Of course some say Sergio Leone’s best film was Once Upon A Time In The West, its certainly the archetypical Spaghetti Western & has memorable performances by Henry Fonda & Charles Bronson.
I thought Kevin Costner’s Wyatt Earp was better then Tombstone.
As for my all time favourite Western well its Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch, this also happens to be one of my all time favourite films.
I really like "The Man From Snowy River," although it's not about the American Old West. But it is a great flick.
The Man From Snowy river has a similar asthethic quality. But still would be good to see another slate of Westerns come out of Hollywood.
