So, recently I signed up for "ringback tones" for my cellphone. I pay an extra $5 a month and when someone calls me, it plays music of my choosing. The way the program is *supposed* to work is that every month, with my payment, I get two credits for two ringtones (they are $1.99 each so it breaks about even).

Anyway, so for the first two months I didn't get my credits so I spent $10 to get some ringtones and called the phone company. The rep said, "Okay I added $5 to your flex bucket so now you can add your ringtones." (A "flex bucket" is something that you put some money into to set it aside specifically for buying stuff like ringtones, graphics and ringback tones.) So I logged into my account on my phone companies site, and the lady didn't do what she was supposed to, she just credited $5 to my account. So I called back and they said putting the $5 into my flex bucket from my account would require I go into a local store in El Paso. And it had to be this specific store because it's the head coporate store in the area. *sigh* Of course it's on the other side of town...and when I got there I had to wait 75 minutes to be seen, and then it took 25 minutes. I told the representative that helped me that the credit was indended for the flex bucket and could be removed from the account once the flex bucket issue is fixed. They gave me two months worth of credit and I stupidly assumed everything was okay. I logged into my account to see if my bill was ready today and the $5 credit is still there.

So, I feel like I have gone above and beyond to get this situation taken care of with them. I kind of feel like I'm stealing this $5, but I went directly to them multiple times and it's still there.

I kinda feel bad. Should I?

Do as I do, and download mp3's via the internet and bluetooth it to your phone, thus leaving an extra $5 to donate to the conspiracy ;)

Yes you should feel terrible taking advantage of that poor cell phone company to stuff your own pockets with their hard earned money!

All I can figure is the cell phone biz must be extremely regulated because they seem very innefficient and non-customer oriented.  At least the company I use is.  I would switch, but I fear it will be the same.  We only really have two to choose from here.

I was looking into getting a satelitte phone, but they were all about $700, plus, they are almost as big as the old BRICK phones.

Little mixup with ringtones and ring back tones here I guess.
@Jackie: It's ok the steal from the rich ;)
see, they want you to pay $5/month for a ringback tone? It's only ok if they give you the five bucks back.

Hi--

I think that when one makes a good faith effort, and the system is still so badly managed that they don't do things right for their own operation, you are fine. For example, if one went to a department store because a product was defective, and at Customer Service they asked you to talk to a different desk, and you took extra time to do so, and at that new location you had to wait and wait and finally they gave you a credit for your product, but then told you to go BACK to the first location to get the replacement, and when you went back, they only had a higher quality product to act as replacement, and they gave it to you, not realizing that it was a loss for them -- you didn't steal it. There was no ill intent on your part, and you went out of your way to do what they said. Now, some people can say that by not informing them in the long run, you are stealing -- there could be an argument there. However, there is a limit to which one can go to try to fix the mistakes of others. You clearly reached that limit and did your best.

;)

Now, download "Anarchy in the UK" and you're all set!
