A few weeks back Nick Clegg the deputy Prime Minister & the leader of a party I was once a member of swas quoted as saying…

“It’s going to be difficult for someone who is going to receive less housing benefit because of the changes we are introducing to understand why, at the same time, we should spend huge, huge amounts of money in a hurry on replacing Trident in full”.

I in fact wrote a response to this http://www.the-bastard.com/index.php?section=45&page=3172

Last weekend there were rumours that the government were planning on cutting benefits to the sick & disabled whilst at the same time the government had announced the commission of two new air carriers.

Though the government has said there are going to be cuts in defence spending but don’t want to be pulling British troops out of Afghanistan anytime soon nor do they seem to be willing to cut back on new toys for the boys as clearly indicated with the commissioning of these two new ships. But hey the government can’t wait to be sticking the boot into the poor & the vulnerable & I guess that’s because unlike the Military Industrial Complex they didn’t contribute to various politicians campaign kitties.

I once told Gard that if you put a gun to my head & said would I prefer my taxes go on welfare programs or to the Military Industrial Complex I’d opt for welfare programs, because with the Military Industrial Complex the intention is to profit from death at least with welfare programs there’s an intention to help people. I voted Liberal Democrat at the last election, in fact I’ve voted Lib Dem at every general election since I’ve been eligible to vote; I was a party member for the best part of 15 years because I believed in the British liberal perspective (which differs somewhat from the US version of liberalism). I will never vote Lib Dem again because I just feel that rather then pushing for liberal principle in the coalition government all Clegg seems to be doing in government is enjoying the kudos of being in government.

I’m not denying that there doesn’t need to be cuts in government spending but I feel fucking the weakest in society is sociopathic & its particularly sociopathic whilst fattening the wallets who gain by killing & maiming.

When Labour came to power in ’97 many on the left thought that they would do something to aid the weakest in society but overall Labour served the interests of the Military Industrial Complex far more then any government post the second world war.

Well said!

Government lives to create more government. They couldn't care less about the sick, elderly and poor.
