Overt Liberty Message Music?
Hey guys, I'm new here, I called free talk live on 6/05/09 to ask Gard about overtly liberty oriented music. While we couldn't really think of very much he suggested I join up and see what you folks could come up with. So folks, any ideas?
Thanks a million.
Hey!! Awesome you're here, man!
You know, one band I didn't mention on the air is the Cro Mags! they have a great song called "Don't Tread on Me" that is very libertarian. The Circle Jerks were pro-liberty as well.
Buuuut, I really can't think of any more! I'll have to spread the word and see what else I can come up with!
Will be back soon!
G!
This is old school rock, but SteppenWolf is a great libertarian message band. My favorite song of thiers was "Monster / Suicide / America".
Being and old guy I tend to remember the 60's a little more than most. A lot of those hippies weren't communists, they where libertarians. But it was easy just to lump all the long hairs as the same.

I think alot of Agnostic Front stuff is pro liberty. There is also a band called Resilience (http://sosrecords.us/label/resilience) that I think are pretty pro liberty. Not to mention all the Anarcho stuff out there. Really there is lots of pro liberty or anti state music out there and alot of its punk/hardcore music, but you just won't find their CD's at the local walmart. However, you can probably get a lot of their music for free if you just check out their web pages and record label sites. Check out Wenevastop.com. All the music there is free to download and there are a lot of pro liberty bands/artists on there.
Also want to add for those searching the internet for music that just because someone is a skin, doesn't mean they're a racist. Just check out the Templars, they're a skin oi/street punk band, but the got a black skin in the band. But RAC music, although standing for Rock Against Communism, is often very racist.
I take issue with most anarchist groups because they usually are more of the teenagers anarchist no-authourity fantasy. They think it's a blank check to be a jerk and have no thought as to order and structure that would be present in an anarcho-cap system. Plus, once they grow up and realize someone needs to run the sewers, they turn to stuff like socialism and syndicalism and all of that garbage.
In other words, they are giving good anarchists like ourselves a bad name.

I completely agree with this. If someone could turn me onto some ideologically sound anarchist tunes I would be very appreciative.
I'm really intrigued with Fela Kuti but would also like a suggestion of a place to start within his catalog.
What is your reason for believing these guys are libertarian and not just liberal, is there any specific song?

I'd recommend Fela Kuti and Africa'70. Kuti was overtly libertarian with his biggest hit, "Zombie" and others such as "Mista Follow Follow." Combining african jazz with funk grooves, Kuti created the sound that became known as afro-beat. It's amazing.
Fela even suceeded from the state of Nigeria, forming his own republic with his band, production people, and fans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalakuta_Republic
I tried to post this yesterday, but I guess it didn't make it (damn kaptcha).
Where do I start? Fela Kuti has like 824623560235623 albums.
Hey dude - welcome to the forums! :)
Hi all! I am new to Liberty Conspiracy having only recently found it - and I'm very glad I did! I listen to the podcasts on my way to work and I need to know the name of the hard-core band at the introduction of Part 3 of the Rights & Government blog. Is that the Cro Mags you mention above? And is the track "Don't Tread On Me"? Please let me know, because I want to enter into a voluntary sale and purchase agreement with a private business to buy it as soon as I can.
Thanks for putting on the shows, and keep up the great work, it is much appreciated!
There is a music list of podcasts in this forum that may help.

Tell me if this this isn't overtly libertarian

I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.
The Levellers
Okay not exactly libertarian but have a listen

They talk about environmentalism so definitely left anarchy.
I'd say the Levellers are probably left-Libertarians.
But, at the end of the day, anarchy is what anarchy does. The market is big enough to allow for the lefty anarchists to go for the anti-materialistic commune style of living, or whatever they so desire. As long as they don't aggress against their neighbours, they're good to go in a voluntary society.
This below is from Fela Kuti's article on wikipedia, this guy is leftist not libertarian:

Okay, that maybe true, but from MY experience with his music, it seems overtly libertarian, especially Fela and Africa '70's "Zombie" and "Mista Follow Follow" definitely being anti-authoritarian.
I think what a lot of people on this board are doing is just citing liberal musicians that have a few songs libertarians can agree with. You all need to work together and make your own underground music scene to counter the liberal mainstream. Check out my zine Music 76 were I am trying to unite Conservatives and Libertarians to do just that.

Also if you know of any other Conservative or Libertarian music acts let us know!
I would kinda have a problem grouping conservative folks in with Libertarian acts.
Sure, the economics may be similar, but that's often where it ends.
Unless you only group the conservatives who are pro-liberty into the equation, in which case I'd be interested in what your criteria is - ie: I notice you have a couple of acts in there who write pro Ron Paul songs?
