Oh Shit Green Day Are Starting To Sound Like Queen
I've not listened to Green Day's new album in its entirety yet but having listened to the first few tracks my first thought is oh shit Green Day are sounding less like Stiff Little Fingers & more like Queen.
Okay they started to sound pompous on American Idiot & I was prepared to cut them a break because considering the mediocre twaddle that counts for serious music these days it was heaps better. Plus let us not forget American Idiot was a concept album & generally the punks have distain for such pretentious shit, but because they've done it & people bought it Green Day are doing it again. Hey its long overdue that somebody sat Billie Joe down & get him to listen to The Ramones, Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys in hope to remind him what first influenced him because it wasn't stinking We Are The Champions & other drivel produced by Queen.
Thanks for the heads-up on new Green Day. I thought American Idiot had some of the best drumming in a pop rock album in a long time.
But I just went over to Amazon and was enticed by their $5 MP3 album offer, but, after previewing half of the songs, no way. It sounds like something from a high school Battle of the Bands show. How disappointing.
They don't harmonize well enough to be compared with Queen!
I downloaded it on release, guys, and would have agreed with you both on first listens - a very inferior release.
However, having listened to it a lot more, I'm warming to it. Sure, it's heavily produced and very commercial, but I still am finding myself enjoying it despite such.
