No wonder why people from Birmingham sound so miserable they haven't figured out that its not the government's job to safeguard jobs.

This is a prime exanple as to the mentality which libertarians are faced with in this country...people always looking too government for answers.

Wasn't it the Green Party who promised, in their election manifesto, to provide the UK with 1 million new green jobs!

I mean, how the hell can jobs be created by anything apart from the market?

Recently, one of our local car companies cut back on some work, meaning a number of workers became almost instantly unemployed. So, did these workers go and find other work? Nope, they protested outside of their old place of work, claiming they should have their old jobs returned to them because 'it wasn't right that' they were fired.

This kind of mentality shocks me. Don't get me wrong, I think that employers should treat their staff with respect, and advise them asap if work is drying up... but if there's no work, there's no work. No amount of good will on behalf of a benevolent employer is going to create jobs - not sustainable, productive jobs, anyway.

Productive jobs aren't created/ maintained due to ethics or morality - they are created in response to the market's demand for a product/ service. It's that simple - yet still political parties shout 'MORE JOBS!' from the rooftops... ARGH!
