I am currently on the last two episodes. Overall, the series has been a great experience. I really, really admire Paul Giamatti (and already did going into the series). In no way does he disappoint here. So far (from what I've seen) Jefferson's character is portrayed fairly honestly which makes for an interesting dynamic between his and Adam's characters as well as some provoking "anarchist" thoughts being presented to a lot of people who may have never thought about it.
Here's a great clip of Hamilton vs Jefferson & for the recod I believe Jefferson to be right
Excellent series! I watched it soon after I learnt that I am related to Aaron Burr. My favourite scene is the one where Hamilton, having degenerated into a blithering idiot, is thrown out by Adams.
If you like John Adams, I recommend William Hogeland's The Whiskey Rebellion.
Rothbardian - what other movies with Giamatti do you recommend? I like "Sideways", being an oenophile myself.
I recommend "Lady in the Water." Giamatti plays a building superintendent, and a leads a bunch of oddballs to protect a mermaid. Interesting, Which lead me to watch Labrinth (which doesn't have Giamatti), an amazing, yet brutal fantasy set in the time of the Fascist uprising in Spain.
There's a Thomas Jefferson Hour podcast available on iTunes that I've been listening to for a while now. Clay Jenkins does half of each show as Jefferson, then the second half as himself. He talks about everything from Jefferson's massive book collection (which became the first Library of Congress, btw) to his love of gadgets and work as an inventor, political spats with contemporaries, agricultural work, to speculating on what Jefferson's take on current foreign affairs would be.
He had (I think) three or four shows in a row dedicated to the HBO series, as well as several episodes on the differences in philosophy, disagreements on politics, economics and government with several of the other "founding fathers". The John and Abigail Adams episodes were both very good, as was the Hamilton episode. Hearing these episodes made me appreciate the HBO series and the great job the actors did in portraying the characters even more.
