Info on the charity Heifer.org
My wife came across this charity called Heifer.org. The group provides the poor with various types of livestock, teaches sustainable agricultural techniques, etc. Does anyone know anything about them? I'm a little worried because their website talks about "gender equality" and taking care of the earth...socialist buzzwords. However, it says that "gender equality" refers to encouraging womens' participation in decisions, education, etc. Anyway, I like the concept--it's like teaching someone to fish instead of giving them fish, but don't want to give a donation to a group whose real purpose is furthering a socialist agenda as so many charities do nowadays.
Thanks.
The great non sequitur committed by defenders of the State, including classical Aristotelian and Thomist philosophers, is to leap from the necessity of society to the necessity of the State.--Murray N. Rothbard
From what I read, I'm seeing a couple things:
Its "caring for the earth" is about teaching people how to properly maintain their land; it seems to focus more proper crop rotations, preventing soil erosion, pollution (I don't know what this means...). However, when you read their mission statement it sounds very greeny socialist like.
Heifer envisions...
A world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet.
"Equitably sharing" also sounds like a socialist term.
Also, the headline for the gender equality section reads:
At Heifer, Gender Equity Means Social and Economic Justice for Women and Men
And that just rubs me the wrong way.
I suppose the only way to know for sure is to look over their books. I'm a bit suspicious myself. At least with them giving out cows we can be sure that at least they aren't those bony commie vegans that aggravate me when they open their mouths.
If we weren't supposed to eat animals, then why do they taste so good, eh?
Humankind may only be free, absent the cruelty that is the state.
