How About Debating Environmentalists?
I remember a while back when Gardner was still doing his old radio show I phoned in once on the whole climate change debate & said that because environmentalists have made such a big deal about climate change its actually distracting from other environmental issues. In fact the whole climate change thing has probably made it harder to campaign on other environmental issues because people have kind of tied all environmental issues in with climate change, when climate change is basically just a theory & there are other proven environmental concerns etc.
I'm brave enough to admit I'm a climate change agnostic I'm not smart enough to know if the earth's climate is fucked. But I know the sense in preventing pollution, in not hunting animals into extinction, in not being over reliant on fossil fuels. In fact my support for renewable energy isn't for environmental reasons but because it would lessen the excuse for war.
I'll admit my suggestion for Gard to debate say a representative of Greenpeace or the Green Party is somewhat mischievous as it would be entertaining if nothing else having opinions that polar going for ir it in a debate, but one never knows maybe there is in fact some common ground & if so that would also be good to hear.
I agree. I would also like to see a debate with environmentalists. I do believe in some points that environmentalists bring up (e.g. clean air, natural resource conservation, etc.); however, I disagree with the means for achieving them. Most enviros push for government regulations to acheive their goals; whereas I believe the free market is the only way to go. Lets look at the timber industry as an example. If I am the owner of a timber company, and I own timber propery, it is in my best interest to ensure my property remains productive. Therefore, I am selective about what I cut; and I replant new trees. How has government managed its forests? Come out to Colorado and see how the lodgepole pines are on the brink of extinction due to beetle kill (a result of poor forest management).
