Haiti
Okay we have all seen the news reports describing how dreadful the conditions are in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.
Its incidents such as the earthquake in Haiti that many people will use as an argument for government & for big government, of course there are free market solutions to deal with humanitarian relief in incidents such as Haiti, we know for example that many are prepared to dip in their pocket & give vulnerary donations towards humanitarian aid.
But we have Obama, brown & other heads of national governments on television saying what governments are doing no matter what the people living under those governments might think, but no one in the media it seems saying what the private sector are doing or what maybe the free market can do.
I do feel when it comes to dealing with natural disasters & the unfortunate is where libertarians are weak & so let this be a quick reminder to libertarians to pipe up & propagate free market solutions.
A good number of my coworkers are from Haiti but it seems like many of their family members have survived. US interventionism hasn't helped Haiti in the past and I doubt it will help in the future. I know libertarians have the stigma of being cold and only concerned with monetary gain and individual pursuits but it seems like the big government pep squad gets the most coverage when it comes to being charitable. Anytime a suggestion like doing away with foreign aid comes up in a time crisis doesn't advance the cause but if people aren't losing half their income to taxes they are more willing to give without any strong arm tactics. I'm an O negative blood donor and I try to give every chance that I'm eligible so whether it stays in NY or heads down to Haiti I try and make a point that I'm a libertarian and I'm giving without being told to do so.
The old cliche goes that the road to hell is paved with good intentions but I don't want the roads in Haiti to be paved with tax dollars because this earthquake might end up being positive PR for nation building efforts.
I'd love for Gard to interview Cabal Member Cliff regarding the situation, and how Cliff, as a Haitian ex-patriot, sees how foreign intervention (and gov't in general) has f'ed up his native land.
Did you hear that wacko dickhead Pat Robertson blamed the earthquake on a pack with the devil

The Huffington Post being what it is obviously they're going to attack Rush Limbaugh, however hearing an audio clip of what he happened to say I kind of agree with Rush that people should be sending money to private charity not the White House.
The real disaster is not the earthquake, but the long-standing oppression of the people. Nothing good can come from a state which gets most of its budget from foreign aid (about 40%). Market prosperity cannot begin to take hold with the absurd corruption going on there.
The US has invaded before, deposed leaders, and I believe it still has embargoes against Haiti. I believe they allow humanitarian aid as an exception.. and I think I read something about arms dealing (????). Punitive measures are beyond retarded.

"While on the ground in Haiti, the U.S. military can interrupt the nightly flights of cocaine to Haiti and the Dominican Republic that come from Venezuela." Read more on what the conservative Heritage Foundation thinks the U.S. should do in Haiti.
Also news from Ziggy's home country that we won't see in the American media.
The great non sequitur committed by defenders of the State, including classical Aristotelian and Thomist philosophers, is to leap from the necessity of society to the necessity of the State.--Murray N. Rothbard
Though I live in Britain its not my home country
Uh-oh. This doesn't sound quite right, does it?
From the BBC news website (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8460185.stm):
'Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who spent their honeymoon in Haiti, have long taken an interest in the country. President Obama has enlisted their help, alongside that of former President George W Bush, to help drive fundrais...ing for Haiti. Speaking on Thursday, President Obama said that this was "one of those moments that calls out for American leadership".
This US intervention, he stressed, would be "for the sake of our common humanity".'
And no better man for a 'humane' act than George W, of course.
I think it'll be interesting to watch developments following The US Military's intervention. I suspect they're thinking of a little 'property development' in the sunshine...
