Well the man who's often referred to as the godfather of rap has died

Paul Weller did a decent cover version of The bottle

Oh yeah as a celtic supporter I'd like to mention Gil Scott-Heron's father was the first Black player to play for Celtic.

Scott-Heron has had a tremendous influence on me.

I spent the whole day listening to GSH.  The breadth and depth of his catalogue is impressive.

When I visited Washington, D.C. I witnessed a concert which was possibly given by GSH, but I was not aware of who was performing at the time.  It rocked my world.  It was a couple of years later that I discovered GSH albums which I played as often as possible at the bakery I worked at.

Such songs as Winter in America, We Almost Lost Detroit, and Angel Dust are my favorties. We Almost Lost Detroit has not lost it's meaning even after the years that has passed since it was recorded.  I couldn't stop thinking about this song in light of the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

I'll probably post more about how awesome I find Gil Scott-Heron's work.  I'll probably put up Nigger Factory for consideration on freedombookclub.com.

Winter in America is especially prescient.  I like what GSH says about the CONstitution.
