When I first registered, I noticed that particular title listed in the "On Our Shelf" list. Now, maybe I'm misunderstanding things. Maybe it's none of my business what Gard chooses to read. Just, libertarianism is already considered a kooky movement; why tie ourselves to a kookier one?

Hey, I have never heard of the book, and I'm not sure which kooky movement you are referring to?  Is it one of the following: Neo-Darwinism, or Intelligent Design.

I'm not well versed on anything Darwinian.  But there are a few things that I know that sprouted from Darwinian thinking, namely Eugenics, and Planned Parenthood.

Will you please explain what you are referring to specifically, so that I can learn from you?  I hope that this doesn't come off as snarky, or smart assed, because I really am interested in this realm of inquiry, but have not had time to explore it.

What little I know about Darwinism comes "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed", which was entertaining but I'm skeptical of the source.

I look forward to your response.

To be honest, if Gard was reading pro-creationist material, as an atheist I still wouldn't have a problem.

Why?

Well, because to believe in freedom is to respect other people's rights to their own opinions, even opinions in total opposition to my own. I'm sure we could have a lively debate on the matter, Gard and I, over a pint of beer. But neither of us would walk away plotting to lobby regarding some legislation to ban the other's opinion.

In summary, to refer to another religion I don't believe in (but a killer quote I'm plotting to have tattooed across my neck):

'An it harm none do what ye will'

I'm an atheist & militantly so, but Gard's free to read whatever crap he wants & believe in whatever crap he wants, I'll defend his freedom to that extent.

But if you ask me what should be taught to kids? Well I'm an atheist & I'm not anarchist, but that's all I'm going to say at fear of being verbally torn limb from limb.
