Yes it’s barbaric but other then those who participate (by choice) who is it harming?

Some people don't like to think about killing animals and especially detest that it can be turned into a spectator sport but only the hard core folks that would point out that millions gather to watch athletes play with a dead cow fashioned into ball. At least with bull fighting the animal has more of chance than the one turned into a ball.
