Turns out the author of Objectivism took social security payments under a different name.

Interesting article. Conspirators, what say you?

Sounds a lil fishy.  The citations say she did it at a "moment of vulnerability" when she had cancer surgury.  It seems like she would have been financially successful at that point and money wouldn't have been a big issue.  At any rate I like to sift through anyone's ideas and pluck out what I like of it's own merit.  People are fallible.

For instance, if I found out Gard worked at the BMV for a couple months in 1999, I wouldn't stop listening to the podcast.

I kept thinking this kind of reporting will ramp up when the remake of Atlas Shrugged comes out next year.

Sidenote: I worked for an Australian Govt Dept in 2007 for 12months. I began struggling with the question of individualism and the state at that time. Quit after 12months, because I knew it was philisophically incongruent with my core convictions. I wish I had of known the podcast was around then!

Remake?  Did they already do an Atlas Shrugged movie?

Yes, yes I was. Not any more though.

As for atlas, I'm pretty sure there was an original movie. I've heard the remake is going to be a tv series.

Hmm.  The institute says the rights were sold long ago, but no movie yet.  I think it could be a great movie, but I predict it will get butchered. It says it's supposed to be out in April.

If somebody has paid into the systen you can't blame from wanting to get something out of the system.

The question is why Ayn Rand paid into the system in the first place.

I thought paying social security in the US was optional?

You may be right.  I need to check into that.  I've always assumed SS/MC were mandatory witholdings and have had them deducted from my pay and employees pay my whole life.  Back when I started my business I read through all this tax crap and somehow I came out of that thinking they were mandatory witholdings.

SS isn't mandatory. I got a friend who just got a job with a railroad co and they have their retirement plan. Said he stopped paying into SS

In Britain the equivalent to social security is mandatory upon employers, if you’re self employed you don’t have to pay.
