Today the White House promised to veto HR 1592, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007. No doubt, the bill’s supporters will accuse opponents of being “haters” and not being tough enough on crime. However, the 14th Amendment of the Constitution promises us all equal protection under the law. Are some victims more equal than others?
