Last week I received an invite to join a Facebook group entitled ‘The Southern Poverty Law Center is a hate group’ & its started to set off alarm bells in my head because the SLPC are not the people that libertarians should be fucking with.
As soon as you get the attention of the SLPC you’ll soon enough find the ADL taking an interest & the ADL are backed by the Israeli government.
The last thing the Free State Project needs is the Jewish lobby coming down on them because some of its participates have involved themselves in something which suits the agenda of Alex Jones & other anti Semitic nutcases.
I’m not saying the SLPC aren’t above criticism but one needs to be careful. I’ve personally criticized the ADL publically on more then one occasion for being hypercritical but I’m able to do so because I’m technically Jewish which insolates me somewhat. I’d point out that the last time I was publically critical of the ADL I also warned Free State Project participants (& libertarians in general) about criticizing groups like the SLPC & the ADL.
I don’t think its helpful for libertarians to be joining a Facebook group which will also attract people with really repugnant hateful agendas as well as gain the attention of Southern Law Poverty Center itself. If libertarians are involving themselves with the same campaign that gets support from anti Semites & other hatemongers…then generalisations will be made & do I even need to explain the kind of crap that can bring about.
I’ll admit one problem the Free State Project is going to have with the SLPC & the ADL (minus any association with anti Semitic rhetoric) is that the FSP is fairly anti government & both the ADL & the SLPC class ‘anti tax’ protests & the ‘individual sovereignty’ movement as extremism. I think it would help that FSP participants open channels of communication with the ADL & the SLPC, rather then signing up to groups that will attract people with repugnant agendas.
I’m not saying that it was fair that the SLPC named Catherine Bleish on a recent shit list they published & it certainly pisses me off that the accusation of Anti-Semitism follows Ron Paul around like a bad odour & it pisses me off because I’ve never heard anything from Ron Paul to give any credence to that accusation. I’m pretty sure that Alex Jones is an anti-Semite because the whole New World Order bollocks he peddles is built upon an anti Semitic conspiracy theory which is ages old.
I’m personally offended by the whole Jewish bankers control the world economy bullshit because I’m Jewish & I’m constantly broke!
Libertarians do tend to question & challenge whoever far more then many others, but that can cause problems in itself. What I’m attempting to say is that libertarians need to be careful & constructive in how they go about criticizing groups like SLPC or the ADL. I suggest rather then setting up some Facebook group which could be misinterpreted, people involved with the Free State Prroject attempt to set up a dialogue with the ADL & the SLPC, because that doesn’t seem to be going on & it probably would prove helpful.
