Former State National Party Minister Bob Katter is a bit of a maverick here in Australia. He was a former Minister to Sir Johannes "Joh" Bjelke-Petersen, one of the longest serving Premiers in Queensland. After state politics Bob Katter took his protectionist policies to Canberra becoming the Member for Kennedy. He has a long pedigree in the National Party of Australia, and as a result of his independent style went rogue back in his early days in Canberra.
The reason I say this is he, has started a new political party, called the Australia Party. It's aim is to bring back trade protectionism into Australian economic policy. He does oppose the AGW carbon tax which has been proposed, however there is that little issue of freedom in trade.
Apparently, appealing to jingoism is quite popular here. It's annoys me, but hey I'm easily annoyed! ;)
