Even a cynic like me was overwhelmed by the performances of British athletes such as Mo Farah & Jessica Ennis. I’m sure the spirits of many people have been lifted by the golden performances of Team GB. I get that with all the doom & gloom there currently is in the world people need a distraction such as the Olympics, but ironically it could be because of the Olympics that there could be even more doom & gloom for people in Britain to have to cope with. Yes the performances of the likes of Mo Farah & Jessica Ennis might be amazing, but sooner or later the British people are going to have to pay for the consequences of the gold medals won by Team GB, the British people are going to have to pay for London hosting the Olympics.

Where as the British has been revelling in the gold medal performances of Team GB & all the backslapping ‘isn’t Britain brilliant’ type bullshit you get from those performances, the international media has reported that the Olympics hasn’t had the ‘positive’ affect that the government has spun us.

The headline from the New York Times kind of says it all ‘After Warnings of an Olympic Crush, Businesses Suffer in a Deserted London’.

In the week leading up the start of the Olympics the British economy suffered its largest quarterly shrinkage in GDP ever! Considering what a vital economic hub London is to the British economy & considering we are in a severe economic recession (if not depression!) & considering that the Olympics appears to be seriously hurting small & medium sized businesses; things don’t bode well economically & as I think it was Bill Clinton who said "It's the economy, stupid". It really is the economy which is the bottom line & the ability to deliver greater happiness for all & so however many gold medals Team GB might win counts for crap if the event in which Team GB wins all those gold medals damages the economy even further then its already damaged.

The amount of gold medals Team GB might win might lift the spirits of British public, but however many gold medals Team GB might win counts for crap if the event in which ‘eam GB wins all those gold medals damages the economy even further then its already damaged & damaging the economy even further isn’t going to secure longterm happiness for us all is it?

Last week a Tory troll said to me that the Olympics are a good thing & that I should stop knocking a good thing, well I’m not entirely sure they are a good thing & my response to that Tory troll is Ceausescu. Nicolae Ceausescu was a Romanian dictator who use to hold these massive & extravagant pageants, despite the fact that at the time the country was piss poor & a good proportion of the population were starving. I think the Nazis were also into having massive pageants & we all know the kind of shite they did people. Of course the Tories would love the Olympics because it encourages all that one nation patriotic ‘isn’t Britain brilliant’ type bullshit, despite the fact that things aren’t that brilliant. What use is rejoicing in Team GB winning a shit load of gold medals at the London Olympics if by London hosting the Olympics means that in less then a decade people are killing each other over scraps of meat to eat?
