Sorry, but this has absolutly nothing to do with freedom I am just aknoledging my disgust of a video game company. Oh, and I wrote it for another forum, so instead of changing it (Keyan is a buddy of mine).
Call of duty was one of the first PC games I ever bought. I remember telling Keyan when I got it how awesome it was. Then they came out with an expansion patch for it, and the game took off like a race horse. I used to love driving around in the jeeps all piss drunk, running people over, not to mention torching people with the flame thrower. Aww sweet sweet memories. When Call of Duty 2 came out, I was on it like a noob to a sniper rifle. That game was epic, and from time to time I still go back and have a go at it. After that game came out I thought the series was at it's peak and if they did come out with another COD it would either be better than the previous, or it would flop. Well Call of Duty Modern Warfare did in fact out-do COD 2 and I still jam that little gem to this day.
In case you have not heard the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is set to come out Nov 10th. I've been anticipating this game's launch the day the first MW launched. It seems there were decisions made that were known to have reprecussions, as they decided to make these decisions public within weeks of the MW2 release date. No dedicated servers!
I've been tossing the pros, and cons around but can only muster up that it is going to be a pile of shit. No matter which way I look at it, I can only see a big, fat, Stanley steamer pile of shit! What the fuck are they thinking? One of the jerks who speaks for the company says that they invested alot of money into the IWnet match making system, and that it will prevent alot of headaches PC gamers deal with. This is just icing on the Stanley steamer pile of shit.
Since there are to be no dedicated servers, gamers will have to go person to person. Personally I don't have the PC power to host matches, and I'm sure I am not the only one in that boat. I imagine this will go down like the P2P co-op/zombie gaming introduced by the latest COD World at War. This P2P format is destine to kill the PC multiplayer for MW2, and if these fools do not realize that they either do not care, or they are doing it on purpose.
To me this whole idea seems like something I would see from a government bureaucrat. They know it's not going to be applauded by fans, they know this will stir up drama, but they are doing it anyways! I signed two different petitions today, both having just over/under 140000 signatues. That equals $840000, and I know for a fact that that is a fraction of what will be lost with this decision. As if they are going to make that up with the $10 map pack that conveinently comes out a week after the release date...
Maybe, just maybe I'll get it after IW's stock plummets and the game is on sale for $10 w/ all the map packs included, but that is a tough maybe.
