Choosing the right duvet?

Buying a duvet or duvets is an investment that will last you for years so it is really important that you take the time to make sure that you make the right decision. Let us help you through the choices you need to make so that you buy the duvet that is just right for you.

Which is the right tog rating on a duvet for me?

A tog rating is simply and indication of how warm your duvet will keep you; in other words, how effectively it will insulate you by trapping warm air around your body.

But be careful don’t automatically assume that a higher tog value means a better quality duvet. Think about how warm you like to be and how warm your bedroom is and then use this handy guide to find the right tog for you.

It’s not all about togs though. There are lots of other considerations that are just as important when you are deciding which duvet to buy.

Which filling should I choose?

Natural Fillings

Natural fillings such as goose or duck feather and/or downare great, this isbecause they are naturally breathable allowing the humidity that could make you uncomfortable to escape. There is no better feeling than snuggling into the soft natural fibres and letting your cares drift away. Duvet

Synthetic Fillings

If you suffer from an allergy, then a synthetic filling for your duvetis the one for you. They are also the perfect choice for children or guest rooms as they are more easily washable.

Natural Fillings

Natural fillings are great because they are naturally breathable allowing the humidity that could make you uncomfortable to escape. There is no better feeling than snuggling into the soft natural fibres and letting your cares drift away.

There are lots of different natural fillings to choose from depending on how much you want to spend.

In general, the higher the down (either duck or goose) content and the better the quality of the down, the more expensive the duvet.

So what do you get for your money?

Goose or Duck down (click here to see our Ultimate Hungarian Goose Down Duvet) is wonderfully soft and fluffy and not only keeps you warm without a feeling of weight it is also extremely comfortable. The soft fibres wrap around your body and feel gorgeous. Getting out of bed in the morning could be the only problem!

Less expensive duvets have more feathers which are a little heavier. They still keep you lovely and warm but are not quite so soft and comfy.

Synthetic Fillings

If you suffer from an allergy, then a synthetic filling is the one for you. They are also the perfect choice for children or guest rooms as they are more easily washable.

Our microfibre duvet is the closest synthetic filling to down (click here to see our Microfibre duvet). The superfine fibres act in just the same way as down, moulding softly to your body keeping you snug and warm but without the weight.

Less expensive synthetic duvets are great value for money and will still keep you warm but they will not offer the same levels of comfort.

Does the way the duvet is made make any difference?

All of our natural filled duvets have a cassette construction which means that the filling is captured in small boxes which prevent the filling moving about. Many cheaper duvets have a channel construction and here the filling can move down to the bottom leaving you cold and uncomfortable.
