Before I begin this rant proper I'll say there are things I do like about Xmas such as, Xmas cake, Xmas pudding, Xmas trees & Xmas lights, but those things which I like about Xmas are but superficial compared too what I detest about Christmas.
1) The run up to every Xmas are television screens are saturated with adverts portraying the 'ideal family Xmas' yet we know the average Xmas isn't anything like its portrayed in the commercials are television screens are infested with. Though people know the portrayal of Xmas in commercials is but a bullshit fantasy, yet if you try & add a drop of reality how Xmas really is for people...oh how dare you scorn the masses & their Xmas fantasies.
John Lyndon once said the reason Punk needed to happen in Britain was that you had people walking up the Kings Rd with their bouffant hair in some kind of malaise of ain't the world okay, whilst two streets away the garbage was piling up because the garbage men were on strike. In other words people were daydreaming & not dealing with reality that things were shite & this is pretty much how I feel about Xmas. People help perpetuate a fantasy that helps distorts the reality of what Xmas is really like for so many.
If you don't deal with the reality of the situation then the reality of the situation will eventually bite & bite hard.
The only time I fantasise is when giving myself some five finger pleasure & that's how fantasies should be, something for somebody to do in private rather then perpetuate & impose it on others.
2) The fact that people live in a fantasy malaise about Xmas personally it doesn't feel as if Xmas is vulnerary. People are often tell me that I don't have to celebrate Xmas, but yet if I don't join in the festivities those same people will make out that I'm weird or not right in the head. I guess what I really object to is that Xmas is government enforced by Xmas Day being a public holiday & that shops & businesses are prohibited from opening as if it was a normal day, because if businesses, shops & trains ran as normal then Xmas wouldn't be as bigger deal & would be more of a truly vulnerary thing. But as the government enforces it being a 'special' day its easier to bully people into thinking its special & to discriminate against those who don't think its special.
3) The bullshit cliché 'the joy should be in giving' because as I've experienced it is utter bullshit. Up until 2002 I did send cards & bought presents for people but for the previous five years nobody seemed to want to make an effort for me & well there comes a time when you think if nobody is prepared to make an effort for you why the fuck should you make an effort for anybody else. If you keep giving again & again & nobody appreciates the effort you make then its just like being mugged time after time after time.
4) Even if people are more sceptical concerning the fantasy of the 'ideal family Xmas' they'll say that it's a time for family....yeah right tell that to somebody who was taken into care at Xmas. Every since I can remember my family never wanted me about & that didn't let up when it comes to Xmas. They always were trying to dump me on somebody else such as some mongy type community centre or something else operated by social services like a children's home. Not a lot has changed since I reached adulthood but rather then it being my family its people I've happened to of been loads of people who tell me how much they 'care' about me or how 'fond' they are of me & yet come Xmas Day those people didn't seem to fond enough or care about me enough to want me about.
5) Its bullshit to say Xmas is time for families to come together but the whole season of goodwill is a load of bullshit; what's the deal that its not okay to act like a cunt towards somebody in December but come January its okay? We should be encouraging goodwill to all individuals all year round & not just the month of December. As it happens I don't see a great deal of goodwill when it comes to December; is this goodwill thing at Xmas time just a middle class thing?
6) I loathe Xmas novelty records
7) I loathe Xmas records novel or not
8) There's plenty of secularism to Xmas....don't remember Xmas trees & geese being mentioned in the Gospels. But though there might be good deal of secularism attached to contemporary Xmas celebrations, I always seem to come across that one twat who'll give me grief if I celebrate Xmas because I'm an atheist, over & over again I'll get some twat bitching at me "Thought you were an atheist Ziggy so how come you're celebrating Xmas" & so I try to live by some kind of atheistic example by not celebrating or even participating.
9) I hate carol singers why should I give them money when I'd not give beggars money. Yeah that's all carol singers happen to be....beggars who sing.
